i heart huckabee’s

i heart huckabee’s  It’s a quirky, odd, hilarious movie about two “detectives” Bernard and Vivian that investigate people’s existential issues. There however is a competing philosopher and existential detective with an opposite theory. So basically the point of the movie is to see the black and the white in life as well as the bits of white in the black and etc and she the grey areas in life. It has a lot of Buddhist and Taosit philosophy in it which is another reason the he like some much. There is also some strong language.

existentialism:

  • her life have no sense
  • he try to find the mean of her life
  • that everything is the same but different
  • But our everyday mind forgets this. We think everything is separate
  • that is  true. But it’s not the whole truth because were all connect.

part#1

  • POZZO:Is the fat man that have a slave colled lucky. He look like a rich man.
  • LUCKY: Is Pozzo’s slave. He is abused physically and verbally, made to work to the point of exhaustion, and denied any opportunity to act of his own accord.
  • ESTAGON: Is the man that try to  find the mean of her live.also sometime he dont remenber some that he do.
  • VLADIMIR: Is the homeless man that live with estragon. also he said that estragon can not  live without him and he tell to much in the story.
  • THE BOY:  Is the messenger who arrives near the end of each act to inform Vladimir and Estragon that Mr. Godot will not arrive is simply called “boy.” Timid and fearful, he addresses Vladimir as Mr. Albert and admits in the first act that Pozzo and his whip had frightened him and kept him from entering sooner. On each visit the boy claims to have not seen Vladimir and Estragon before.
  • GODOT: Is a man. he have money, he is a hope of vladimir and estragon. and he try to find the mean of her life.

part#2

Absurdism is the belief that people  that looking for the meaning of life is something that you don have answer because life is meaning less any way and you are not going to find nothing but death when you finding.Estragon shows absurdism when he wants to hang himself from a tree followed by Vladimir. He acts like he doesn’t care about his life because he thing about how poor people live.

PART#3

metaphor is literary element because the way of describing something by referring it as something different and suggesting that it has similar qualities. for example “like or as” that mean that two or more thing without use by a symbol.

PART#4

Repetition is connected to absurdism.absurdism mean that life doesn’t  have meaning or purpose. repetition mean something happen more that one time.so
repetition in Waiting for Godot such as the phrase, “nothing to be done,” is connected to absurdism because they repeat the pharase. so sometime people need to fix her live but sometime you dont have the way how to fix.

literary element presentation 11/12/2010 hw

  • METAPHOR: when you compare something without like or as. ex: “but my heart is a lonely hunter that hunt on a lonely hill” by william s. and “a man may break a word with you sir and words are but wind”by shakes peafe. extended metaphor, waiting for godot pozzo- lest say no more up pig, and estragon- people are loody ignorant apes.
  • REPETITION: the rerturn of a word, phrase, stanza form or effect in any form of literature repetition. ex: tv,and song about act. ex#2: nothing to be done, shows us the way they live they never know what would happen next, they just live day to day, the connection that this have are is to absordism when stragon repeat the pharase “nothing to be do”.
  • ALLUSION: noun and a brief reference to a person event place movie etc. some ex that they have are family guy and scary movie, ex for book are waiting for godot, bible, christ, and eiffel tower. some philosophy they have are existentialism and absurdism.

presentation

in group 1 I liked the way they interpreted the characters as they moved from one place to another. One thing I learned was that Estragon and Vladimir wanted to hang them self,

in group 2 something that i like is the form that they present the funny and the way that they art.

in group 3  I liked the costumes and the actuation. I learned that Lucky is Pozzo slaves. Pozzo act like 2 person because he say that leave him in peace but he is the one that is using him as a slave.

in group 4 something i like from this groups was the idea that they make of using mask also another thing i like was they role play was the funniest one in class.

waiting for godot

ESTRAGON:
(after prolonged reflection). Is that the opposite?
VLADIMIR:
Question of temperament.
ESTRAGON:
Of character.
VLADIMIR:
Nothing you can do about it.
ESTRAGON:
No use struggling.
VLADIMIR:
One is what one is.
ESTRAGON:
No use wriggling.
VLADIMIR:
The essential doesn’t change.
ESTRAGON:
Nothing to be done. (He proffers the remains of the carrot to Vladimir.) Like to finish it?
A terrible cry, close at hand. Estragon drops the carrot. They remain motionless, then together make a sudden rush towards the wings. Estragon stops halfway, runs back, picks up the carrot, stuffs it in his pocket, runs to rejoin Vladimir who is waiting for him, stops again, runs back, picks up his boot, runs to rejoin Vladimir. Huddled together, shoulders hunched, cringing away from the menace, they wait. #
Enter Pozzo and Lucky. Pozzo drives Lucky by means of a rope passed round his neck, so that Lucky is the first to enter, followed by the rope which is long enough to let him reach the middle of the stage before Pozzo appears. Lucky carries a heavy bag, a folding stool, a picnic basket and a greatcoat, Pozzo a whip.
POZZO:
(off). On! (Crack of whip. Pozzo appears. They cross the stage. Lucky passes before Vladimir and Estragon and exit. Pozzo at the sight of Vladimir and Estragon stops short. The rope tautens. Pozzo jerks at it violently.) Back!
Noise of Lucky falling with all his baggage. Vladimir and Estragon turn towards him, half wishing half fearing to go to his assistance. Vladimir takes a step towards Lucky, Estragon holds him back by the sleeve.

When Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot exploded on to the London stage 50 years ago, it shocked as many people as it delighted. There had never been a play like it; two men clowning around, joking and arguing, repeating themselves, as they wait through one day and then another, waiting for the mysterious Godot. The combination of music hall, poetry and tension redefined what is possible in theatre, so that these days, Waiting for Godotis accepted as one of the most significant plays of the 20th century.

Beckett’s characters have lost none of their power to fascinate and amuse and this production, directed by the acclaimed theatre and film director, Sean Mathias, has attracted the sort of great actors that the play deserves.
